Bring on the New Year
Are you ready for 2014?
A few years ago I started running again for the first time since I was on the cross-country team my sophomore year at West Ottawa High School.
I've also been trying to catch up on the classics I never got around to reading.
I did something on New Year's Day that I haven't done in 25 years; I went skiing.
I can't tell you that it was as thrilling as I remember. Without the root beer schnapps and the teenage testosterone, it was mostly just cold- even in my new snowpants! I made a few good runs and had a great time, though, because I was doing something different.
Are you stuck in a routine? Does each day look like the one that came before it? Is there something you did as a kid that you haven't done in forever?
Get out there and do it!
I don't win every race I enter and it seems I add more books to my list than I finish, but running and reading make my life better.
You don't have to run a marathon or read The Odyssey. You don't have to make grand, sweeping, all-inclusive New Year's resolutions. You don't have to "become a better person".
All you have to do is something.
