UPDATED 1/9/16 2:30pm An approaching winter storm has caused a variety of watches and warnings to be issued by the National Weather Service.

The counties of southwest Michigan are under a winter weather advisory for Saturday evening through Sunday for a decreased amount of snow originally forecast. 2-4 inches of accumulation are now expected. Calhoun County, which was once removed from the winter storm watch, has been placed under a winter weather advisory.

A winter storm warning does remain in effect for Van Buren County and the counties along the lakeshore and northern Michigan.

 

Updated 1/9/16 8:30am Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, Branch and Barry counties are under a winter weather advisory Saturday evening thru Sunday for 3-5 inches of accumulation.

The lakeshore counties of Berrien, Van Buren, Allegan and north and west in Michigan have been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning. 5-8 inches of snow are expected.

Calhoun County has been been removed from all active advisories.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for all of Southest Michigan from Saturday evening through Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, 5-9 inches of accumulation are possible.

The counties under the watch include Kalamazoo-Van Buren-Calhoun-St. Joseph-Cass-Berrien-Allegan-Berry.

The NWS says the weather will begin to change Saturday evening,

SNOW IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE AREA SATURDAY NIGHT AS A STRONG LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES NORTHEAST THROUGH THE OHIO VALLEY. THE
SNOW WILL TRANSITION TO LAKE EFFECT SNOW SUNDAY AS THE LOW
DEPARTS AND ARCTIC AIR MOVES IN BEHIND IT.
