The first ice of the season is always the most dangerous and conditions do not permit safe ice fishing yet, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Warmer temperatures coupled with rain by the end of the week will most likely take out some of the ice in the Lower Peninsula but continued cold over the next couple weeks does look promising as far as ice fishing goes, the agency predicts.

Meanwhile, the Kalamazoo River and St. Joseph River still have open waters and anglers are catching a fair amount of steelhead. The Grand River at Grand Rapids continues to produce steelhead and the occasional walleye.

While you wait for the ice, enjoy this compilation of misadventures.
