Did you even know people race on snowshoes?

The Yeti or Not 5k and 10k snowshoe race was February 14 at Rockford East Middle School in Rockford, North of Grand Rapids.

This was my second year participating in a snowshoe race (check out last year's photos here) and this time I had my own gear.

Mother Nature brought the snow- even more had piled up in Rockford since I was there the week before to compete in the Michigan Adventure Race: Winter Edition.

The race followed the schools cross-country course for the 5k, with 10k racers doing an extra lap. The problem was, as the snow continued to fall and the wind continued to blow, the tracks from the first lap were drifted over by the time we got to the second. It was like running in sand. You've run in sand at the beach, right? Now, imagine the water is SIX MILES AWAY!

Honestly, that's part of the fun of a race like this; facing everything the elements can throw at you and driving through, persevering. This wasn't about being fast, this was about finishing.
