343 racers, including yours truly, competed in Michigan Adventure Racing's Winter Edition.

Adventure racing is a fast-growing sport for good reason.  No other competition combines so many disciplines and so much fun.

Unlike a 5k race or a marathon, you don't just follow the person in front of you and try to run fast for 20 minutes or 5 hours and 20 minutes.

Adventure racing is kind of like a scavenger hunt; you get as many checkpoints as you can find.  (Yes, they are often hidden- you'll need a map and a compass.)

Add in road and mountain biking, paddlesports, snowshoeing or whatever else conditions and terrain allow plus Amazing Race style challenges and you're beginning to get an idea of what this is all about.
