The Rhinestone Cowboy's last ride has been bittersweet.  Glen Campbell, now 78, is in the late stages of his battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Some, including this disc jockey, would say he is doing the best work of his life.

I'm still here, but yet I'm gone
I don't play guitar or sing my songs

Diagnosed early in 2011, Glen Campbell made his Alzheimer's battle public and then got back to work releasing the incredible album 'Ghost On the Canvas' that August.

Knowing this would likely be his final album of original material, Campbell sang about things that mattered. Things that mattered in his life: his family, his faith, his fears and his future. Like Johnny Cash's 'American' recordings done in his final days it is a stunning collection.

They never defined who I am
The man that loves you 'til the end

A farewell tour followed and now the song 'I'm Not Gonna Miss You' from the documentary of the same name is up for an Academy Award on Sunday. It already won a Grammy for Best Country Song earlier this year. The Band Perry also won with their remake of 'Gentle On My Mind', a 1967 hit for Campbell.

As he is now in an assisted-living care community, Glen Campbell will not attend Sunday's ceremony, but Tim McGraw will perform a very special tribute to the Country music legend.

The 87th Annual Academy Awards airs live Feb 22 on ABC.

You're the last person I will love
You're the last face I will recall
And best of all, I'm not gonna miss you
Not gonna miss you

The quotes above are from his final song 'I'm Not Gonna Miss You'. Enjoy a look back at his amazing career one more time.
