Hector Santiago opened the game, pitching for the Twins and Justin Verlander took the mound for Detroit. Both pitchers maintained a scoreless inning.

The 2nd inning was rather ho-hum. Detroit failed to perform in the batting box, as well as Minnesota, making it a yawn of a game.

The Tigers came to life in the 3rd inning, with Castellanos and Cabrera scoring, making it a 2-0 game. The Twins failed to respond, remaining scoreless.

The 4th and 5th went scoreless but the game came to life in the 6th. James McCann homered to left-field making it a 3-0 game for Detroit. Max Kepler and Miguel Sano scored off from Verlander, putting the Twins on the board 3-2. The Tigers relieved Verlander of his pitching duties and brought out Kyle Ryan. After an unimpressive start, Ryan was relieved by Joe Jimenez. The Twins came back with a vengeance, with Kepler, Sano and Mauer scoring and a homer by Rosario brought in Grossman and Polanco, making it a 6-3 in Minnesota’s favor.

Blaine Hardy started pitching for Detroit in the 7th and the inning was scoreless for both teams.

Taylor Rogers took the mound for the Twins in the 8th  and the inning was scoreless, once again.

The Tigers couldn’t rally in the 9th and the Twins took the game 6-3.

The two teams will face each other again on Saturday. Coverage begins at 1:45 PM on 95.3 WBCK.
