Lady Gaga to Go Full Country in ‘A Star Is Born’
Lady Gaga is set to play a country singer in a major motion picture, and she's writing new music for the film.
The pop star, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, will star opposite Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born, a remake of a remake of a remake that most famously starred Kris Kristofferson and Barbara Streisand in 1976. Gaga will play Ally, a newcomer who is being brought along by Cooper's Jackson Maine. Eventually her star power surpasses his, there's some drama, a few scenes of passion and if the new movie ends like the one with Kris and Babs ... well, we won't spoil it for you.
Country Music's Best Actor? Who Do You Think?
USA Today recently shared a first look at the filming of the movie, set for a September 2018 release. At Coachella, Lady Gaga fans were asked to attend a taping at an offsite club. They were encouraged to wear country or cowboy clothes for the scenes, shot earlier this week.
A press release from Warner Brothers says Lady Gaga is writing and performing new music for the movie. It's not her first country effort. Last year she made news for a song called "A-Yo" from her Joanne album that was written by famous country music songwriter Hillary Lindsey. Many felt the song was a country song, but she's never tried to release it to country radio.
Singer Beyonce was originally attached to A Star Is Born and Coachella, but left both once she announced she is pregnant with twins.
