Randy Travis Supports Other Artists Because ‘It’s Good for Him,’ Wife Says
Randy Travis warms new hearts every time he shows up to support another artist at their show. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 2013, Travis has appeared at a myriad of events, surprising fellow artists (and longtime fans) like Scotty McCreery, Kane Brown and many more.
As much joy as it brings the artists, Travis is equally thrilled to show his support. “He enjoys the music, and I think it’s good for him, just to know that the artists that are still out there, that they love him,” Travis' wife, Mary, tells the Boot.
Just some of the places the legend has appeared include the 2016 CMA Country Christmas taping at the Grand Ole Opry and Charlie Daniels' 80th Birthday Volunteer Jam to present him with the Rare Country Humanitarian of the Year Award — he even snuck up on Brown while he was performing "Three Wooden Crosses" live!
“The artists, when they get through, they [tell Travis], ‘I can’t believe you sat through my whole concert.’ I guess artists just don’t do that,” Mary adds. “But I’ll tell you what, it’s been a real treat. And it’s always so heartwarming to see the reception they give this man, which, he deserves.”
Travis received a star-studded tribute recently when several of country music's biggest names came together to honor his legacy in the genre. Legends like Garth Brooks, Kenny Rogers and Tanya Tucker and hot newcomers such as Chris Janson, Michael Ray and William Michael Morgan were all present to sing Travis' hits and shower him with love. The "1982" singer was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame alongside Brooks in 2016.
