In a city with one Cinderella story still waiting for a fairy-tale ending, another created by an injury, and with a WMU connection, happened Thursday evening in Chicago.

Scott Foster, who played goal at Western Michigan University from 2002-2006, but now works as an accountant in Chicago, came in as an emergency goaltender for the Chicago Blackhawks. Foster played most of the third period, made 7 saves without giving up a goal, and help the Hawks defeat the Winnipeg Jets 6-2.

Foster, 36, whose career record was 20-22 as a Bronco, and is now a "beer league" goalie, was voted #1 star of the game.

Foster is one of a rotating group of goaltenders who are on-call. Chicago's starter, Anton Forsberg, was injured in the pre-game warmups. (He is out for the rest of the season) Collin Delia, who was scheduled to make his NHL debut Friday night, started the game and played well, but went out with severe cramping in the third period.

Foster says he'll be back at work on Friday. He's probably busy with it being tax season.  But he will have a story to tell co-workers at the water cooler.
