Lauren Alaina said she's "a hot mess" on Thursday morning (Feb. 16) after learning that she is nominated in the upcoming 2017 ACM Awards.

The former American Idol contestant recently returned with her sophomore release, Road Less Traveled, and on Thursday morning she broke down and cried when she learned that she had been nominated for New Female Vocalist of the Year.

The singer -- whose current single, "Road Less Traveled," has become her biggest hit to date, landing in the Top 15 -- posted a video to social media after receiving the news, filming herself on her phone in an airport while barely managing to choke back her tears of joy enough to address her fans.

"Guys, I'm nominated for an ACM!" the young star says, wiping away tears. "Thank you so much for believing in me and sticking by me. We're nominated this year! And I'm crying like an idiot in the airport. I can't help it."

The singer-songwriter overcame an eating disorder and vocal problems that sidelined her for several years before she could release Road Less Traveled, which is a "brutally honest" project that draws from her personal trials and triumphs.

"I look like a hot mess, but I don't care because I am having the best morning ever," she writes on Twitter. "Five years and I'm finally nominated. I'm so thankful."

"Oh my gosh. My heart may explode," she adds on Instagram. "I'm nominated for New Female Vocalist of the Year at the @acmawards. I'm sorry I look so rough in this video. I just wanted to share this moment with all of you. I couldn't be happier. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you."

The 2017 ACM Awards are set for Las Vegas on April 2, and will air live on CBS at 8PM ET. Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley are returning to co-host the awards, which will take place at the T-Mobile Arena for the first time.
