The Concert

The crowd was small but satisfied by the time the night ended after Kip Moore's "Me & My Kind" Tour's date in Kalamazoo on October 6 at Wings.

The opening of Kid Rock's "Cowboy" played as Jon Pardi took the stage promptly at 8 p.m. to kick off the night. A fence with his name on it crowded Jon to the edge of the stage but he didn't seem to mind as his 6-piece band delivered and energetic, fast-moving 48 minute set that had the crowd singing along long before he got to the hits "What I Can't Put Down," "Up All Night" and the closer "Head Over Boots."

Kip Moore quickly proved that he was clearly the headliner as he stalked the stage, climbing atop the monitors and engaging the audience. The band revved through several songs before launching into a rowdy version of "Beer Money" followed by a faithful cover of Jimmy Eat World's "The Middle" that was surprising but fit the show very well.

Sporting tight jeans (look out, Luke Bryan) and sipping on a fifth of Jack all night, Kip Moore's Georgia drawl filled the end of the arena as the crowd sang along to every single word of "Running for You," the song ending with just Kip and his guitar leading the chorus. Several solo acoustic songs followed including "Hey Pretty Girl" with a line from The Temptations' "My Girl" as a coda.

Sweat-soaked but not out of breath, Kip Moore sincerely thanked the audience for attending the show. "We've never played Kalamazoo before. I never know who is going to show up or how long this thing is going to last. Thank you for showing up!"
