The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office has now picked its new undersheriff, to take the position of retiring Undersheriff Paul Matyas.

On Wednesday, the Office announced in a release that James VanDyken will be taking the role, a promotion from his current role as Captain of their operations division. The 47-year-old VanDyken has worked with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office since 1991, starting out a jail deputy and getting promoted steadily since then.

Undersheriff Matyas, who announced his retirement in July, will work with VanDyken to help him transition, until he officially retires on October 6.
