In-Studio Exclusive from Gunnar of Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys
Hear the song we couldn't play on the radio.
Gunnar, minus the Grizzly Boys was in our Kalamazoo Country studios to promote the band's Kalamazoo Ribfest appearance and play some songs for us.
"Standard American" is not a standard Country song. Sure it has many of the same components, but it is more Hank than Luke. "Standard American" is more Colt Ford than Florida Georgia Line and has more in common with outlaw country than today's country.
Gunnar says it's a song about workin' folk. It is about you; it is about me.
You can call me a redneck, call me a hick
Say I'm a drunk, messed up just a bit
But the flag I fly's got the stars and stripes
Test my freedom, I'll be down for a fight
We're the backbone, blue collar
Working, trying to earn a dollar
Hurt somebody, feeds our kids
Standard American...
