Chris Stapleton Extends Backstage Invite to K-9 Officer Who Was Shot

Chris Stapleton was the one to request a meeting with a Jacksonville, Florida, officer who was shot in the line of duty.

Stapleton heard the story of K-9 officer Jeremy Mason, who was in a serious altercation in July 2017, and extended a special meet-and-greet to Mason and other local law enforcement at his Nov. 11 Jacksonville show.

“In July 2017, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer Jeremy Mason was shot in the face while pursuing a bank robbery suspect and three time convicted felon,” Jacksonville Sherriff’s Office explains via its Facebook page. “While fleeing from police, the suspect leaned out the window of a vehicle and shot at police multiple times. Officer Mason was shot in the face by the suspect while driving. He continued to pursue the suspect, and returned fire.”

“Country music star Chris Stapleton who was in Jacksonville for a concert Saturday night, heard of Officer Mason’s heroic story and requested to meet him,” the post continues. “Chris Stapleton also requested to meet other law enforcement officers working.”

Just days before the Jacksonville show, Stapleton won awards for Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year (for From A Room: Volume 1) at the 51st annual CMA Awards in Nashville. Stapleton also won both of those awards (and New Artist of the Year) at the 49th annual CMA Awards in 2015. Besides bringing home new hardware once again, Stapleton performed his single “Broken Halos” with wife, Morgane, to a CMA Awards standing ovation.

Stapleton’s highly anticipated From A Room: Volume 2 will be released on Dec. 1.
