With a strong outing from Justin Verlander and a home run from Cabrera on his first day back, there was a lot to like about the Tigers’ match up, Tuesday night versus their division rival, Cleveland Indians. Cabrera shot a 2-run, home run in the 3rd, in an inning where the Tigers would send seven to the plate, score three and set the pace for the rest of the game. The Indians would score on a bases loaded, wild pitch in the 1st inning. Otherwise, Justin would settle in and keep the Indians off the board until the 6th inning, when the Indians would tack on what would turn out to be their final run of the game. The Tigers left the 6th, leading 5-2.

The 9th Inning was interesting for all the wrong reasons. After recording two outs, Tiger reliever Francisco Rodriguez would give up a double to Gomes, and a walk to Santana. That would send the tying run to the plate. Fortunately K-rod and the Tigers would hold on. A pop up from Lindor, to third would end the game, 5-2.

In 7 innings of work, Justin would give up 2 runs, on 2 hits, with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Alex Avila had a strong night, once again, going 2 for 4.

The Tigers improve to 14-12 and have now won the last three. They’ll play game three of their four game series with the Indians, Wednesday night. Matt Boyd(2-1, 3.86 ERA) will take the mound for the Tigers. The Indians will send out Carlos Carrasco(2-2, 2.04 ERA). Coverage for that game begins at 6:45, Wednesday night, on 95.3.
