Shrek would say "Ogres have layers". Well, this method of planting has layers and requires a lot of work and a lot of raw material in the form of compost, peat and topsoil. Do the results justify the means?  According to organic expert Herbert Clarence White of Paradise, California in an article published by Cannabis World, Using the method developed by his grandmother Ellen G. White in Battle Creek.

You start out by digging a hole 3 feet wide and 3 feet deep in which to plant your young fruit tree. Separate the topsoil from the subsoil that is dug from the planting hole. In the bottom of the hole place a couple pieces of 4-inch drain tile and plug up the ends with stones. Fill up the bottom foot of the hole with a mixture of equal parts of topsoil, peat moss and finished compost, plus about 5 pounds of phosphate rock or colloidal phosphate.

Apparently this works for your garden planting as well According to Sun Country Gardens.

Also, you can find more clear, step-by-step instructions from Instructables.

And it doesn't stop there, it seems that allot of people are doing this. Here you can see a video of a class learning this method called Blueprint Tree Planting.

I think I will try this in my garden this year.
