These amazing homes required no maintenance and were quick to build. What better place to build them but Ohio?

 

After the troops returned from WWII, there was a huge demand for new homes to be built quickly and inexpensively. Enter The Lustron! Built from steel panels with a baked on enamel finish (think of the stove in your kitchen), they required no painting, no termite control (they are steel!) and you could clean it with a garden hose.

I have found 2 of these right here in West Michigan!

What was really cool about these houses is that they could be disassembled and reassembled in a matter of weeks. there were only around 2,500 made before the company went under but most still survive today. Have you seen one of these houses?
