"Winter Wonderland" was a state slogan for good reason: a Michigan city is in the top 15 on a list of the coldest places in the United States.

Winter is coming.

We know Michigan winters are cold but did you know the temperature has hit 50 below zero on at least one occasion?

The lowest temperature ever recorded in the United States was -80 degrees Fahrenheit, according to weather website currentresults.com.

The city of Vanderbilt recorded a reading of -51 Fahrenheit on February 9, 1934. Vanderbilt is in Otsego County, on I-75 North of Gaylord. A 50 below reading puts Michigan in the Top 15 on a list of the coldest temperatures ever

Fifty below zero! That is Alaskan cold! Strange things happen when it gets that frigid.
