“I was out of line and I was wrong.”

In the latest development in envelopegate, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has finally issued an apology. But before we get there, lets do a quick recap.

In what is no doubt the most insane moment in Oscars history, Moonlight won Best Picture only after it was wrongly announced that La La Land was the winner.

Ah, can you smell it? The aroma of scorching hot awards season debates is already in the air! The nominees for the 2017 Oscars were announced bright and early this morning – or should we say dark and early, as the ScreenCrush team beat the sunrise for the big announcement.

IT FINALLY HAPPENED. Leonardo DiCaprio has won his very first Academy Award. Whether you were rooting for or against ‘The Revenant’, whether you think he deserved the award for his grunting and groaning as Hugh Glass or just wanted him to win a damn Oscar already, it doesn’t matter. He’s officially in the Oscar club now.

Brie Larson won Best Actress at the 2016 Oscars for her performance as Ma in Room, beating out fellow nominees Cate Blanchett, Charlotte Rampling, Jennifer Lawrence and Saoirse Ronan.

Alejandro G. Iñarritu just made Oscar history. ‘The Revenant’ filmmaker took home the Academy Award for Best Director on Sunday, the third time in the awards’ history a director has won in two consecutive years. Joseph L. Mankiewicz was the last director to win the award back-to-back in 1950 and 1951, following John Ford’s ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ and ‘How Green Was My Valley’ wins in 1941 and 1942, respectively.

Take a seat, Sadness. It’s Joy’s night. That’s because Inside Out triumphed in a very competitive category (that also included Shaun the Sheep Movie and the truly outstanding Anomalisa) to take home the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at this year’s Oscars. It’s the second Best Animated Feature win for director Pete Docter (2009’s Up was the first) and the eighth win for Pixar Animation Studios (the other six, for those keeping score at home, are Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Toy Story 3, and Brave).

With the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, all eyes where on 2016 Oscars host Chris Rock as he returned to add a little diversity to this year’s Academy Awards, and he did not disappoint.
