Across the state of Michigan, people are preparing for severe weather season. April 11th through April 15 is severe weather awareness week, preparing for the months of June through August that are recognized as having severe threats of flooding, tornadoes and hail.

The national weather service has set aside this week as a friendly reminder to be prepared and to know where to go to be safe.

We will be airing a tornado drill on Wednesday, April 13th at approximately 1:30 pm.

This is only a drill to test our systems and to aid our listeners as to what they will hear and what steps to take in an actual emergency. Weather alert radios, websites and even social media are beneficial sources for receiving information quickly. According to Michigan Committee for Severe Weather Awareness, a watch is issued 2 to 6 hours before a event. A warning is issued about 10 minutes before an event will strike.

Those warnings are generally based off of radar information. Historically, the most severe events occur between the months of June, July and August. You can get more information here.
