The City of Portage will not hold its annual fireworks display for 4th of July 2018 due to construction at Portage Central High School.

The Portage Rotary is the group responsible for the annual fireworks display and the city shared the news on their website recently that the Portage Central area will:

not host their annual Fourth of July fireworks display at McCamley Field in 2018, due to the demolition of the existing field and construction of a new stadium by Portage Public Schools.  A determination as to future Fourth of July fireworks displays by the Portage Rotary Club has not been made.

And that last line sounds rather ominous concerning the future of 4th of July fireworks in Portage.

What to do if you're fireworks-free in Portage? Perhaps a drive to the lake shore would be in the plans for you this year. South Haven, St Joseph, New Buffalo, Saugatuck and Holland traditionally do fireworks on the holiday.
