Paw Paw's Briggs dam partially collapsed early Sunday morning which could have caused serious damage had it not been for this annual event. I showed up just in time to speak with several members of the Village Council and maintenance department as well as the DNR and DEQ. Every year, the Village of Paw Paw opens the gate to the Maple Lake outlet and allows the water level to drop. The reason for this is to try and kill off vegetation in the lake. This event may have prevented further damage to property on the lake. Plans to repair the Dam were discussed but they are not ready to make those talks public as of yet.
