The Pancheros Mexican Grill on South Westnedge in Portage has closed. The Mexican chain shared a building with Jimmy John's and Noodles in front of the Southland Mall.

The building at 6160 S. Westnedge closed recently and all signage has been removed from the facade.

Pancheros traditional homebase is around universities including their first locations in Iowa City and East Lansing.

The chain prides itself on their fresh tortillas with their website boasting:

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE TORTILLA.
Make no mistake, it's all about the tortilla. Each one is made and pressed fresh on the spot. No two are the same. Like snowflakes, only prettier, tastier, and much better suited for bundling up beans and salsa.

The EL location, along with Ann Arbor are the closest Pancheros to Southwest Michigan. The chain has about 70 restaurants around the country.

Similar Mexican Grill concepts QDoba, Chipotle and Moe's remain in the Kalamazoo area.
