The National Transportation Safety Board has released their preliminary report detailing the June 7 crash that left 5 cyclists dead in Kalamazoo County.

The report goes into detail about the way the incident played out on North Westnedge Ave. in Cooper Township.  The report shows that the Chevy pickup driven by 50-year-old Charles Pickett Jr left the roadway in the 5500 block of N. Westnedge and collided with the group of nine cyclists from behind, before crossing to the left side of the road and ending in a drainage ditch.

As earlier reported, Pickett is believed to have been under the influence at the time of the crash.  The NTSB will continue its investigation into the crash, saying in the report that they want to “End Substance Abuse Impairment in Transportation”.

Charles Pickett is currently facing several charges including second degree murder.
