The ancient art of Tai Chi helps reduce stress, enhance balance and circulation and improve strength and flexibility.

For the past 5 weeks, I've been taking a Kalamazoo Community Education Tai Chi class. About 15 of us meet in a gym and attempt to learn moves like "left grasp birds tail," "strum the pei pa," "white stork spreads wings" and "single whip." (I'm hoping we "nae nae" next week.) Our group has learned the first 17 of the 108 move Taoist Tai Chi set.

While Kalamazoo Community Education has another 6-week introductory course that begins October 26, those interested in learning more are invited to attend the open house of the Kalamazoo/Portage chapter of the Taoist Tai Chi Society. The event is Thursday, October 15 from 1:30- 3:30 at the center located at 614 Romence Road Suite 240 in Portage.

Anyone is welcome for this free introduction to the practice of Tai Chi and no commitment is required.
