Kelly Clarkson is best known for her work in pop music, but she has revealed that she is currently at work on a country album.

The 32-year-old original American Idol champion has just released a new album titled Piece by Piece, which slants entirely toward pop. She says she'll turn her attention to a long-talked-about full country project next.

"I’ve actually been creating both albums, a country one and this one at the same time. I’ve been working on both projects simultaneously." she tells Time magazine. "I’m both people. I have everything on my iPad from country to R&B to pop to rock. I listen to classical as well. I had a pop record left on my contract, so we decided to put this one out first."

Clarkson has worked with country artists on more than once occasion, including duets with Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Vince Gill and Jason Aldean. Last year she married into one of country music's royal families when she wed Brandon Blackstock, a Nashville talent manager who is also Reba's stepson. Blackstock manages Blake Shelton. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter River Rose, in June.

The singer's new single is "The Heartbeat Song," and her album features several uplifting tracks written by pop sensation Sia as well.

"It’s probably my best pop album that I’ve ever put out, maybe because we had a lot of time to work on it because I was pregnant!" she says. "But I will have a country album that will come out. I always tell people I might do Broadway one day, I might do an R&B album. I just like music."
