The Kalamazoo County Health Department is putting out a warning to all Spring Break travelers.

In a release, the KCHD says that you might want to reconsider your destination if it’s an area affected by the Zika virus.  These areas include Puerto Rico, Mexico, and much of Central and South America.

Zika is not too dangerous for adults, with most people suffering symptoms similar to the flu, but the virus is dangerous if a woman who is pregnant or becomes pregnant catches it, as it can cause a variety of birth defects to a child.

The disease is spread via mosquito bites, or through sexual contact with an infected person.

If you’re traveling to an at-risk area, make sure to take extra precautions to avoid mosquitoes.
