Kalamazoo Named No. 3 City for Creatives

Kalamazoo nourishes the creative class and earned the third spot on the list of 'Cities for Creatives.'

SmartAsset, a financial planning website, points out that the often low earnings of artists often limits creativity. The low cost of living in Kalamazoo (86.7% of the national average) means that aspiring artisans can practice their craft in lieu of taking a second job to pay the bills as most often happens in the big cities that are so famous for the arts.

New Orleans, Louisiana topped the list and 9 of the top 10 cities for creatives are in the South or Midwest. Kalamazoo is the smallest city to make the list and even came in just ahead of Austin, Texas, long famous for its support of the arts.
