Jason Isbell has been a favorite of mine for a while now. I've seen him play live twice and can't wait to see him again on Saturday at the Chicago Theatre.

I'm sure he'll be in a great mood, as his song "24 Frames" just won the 2016 Grammy for Best Roots Song and the album it is on, Something More Than Free, won Best Americana Album. His previous record Southeastern won Americana Album of the Year in 2014, one of 3 citations he collected that night.

What makes this guy so great?

For me, the music is honest, the storytelling is gripping yet Isbell's manner is genuine and unassuming. He's got a hell of a story to tell about the road he took to get to the incredible place he is in his life right now. (You can read more about Southern Rock Operas, Southern Comfort, interventions and Americana here.)

If you've never heard of Jason Isbell, this 2013 performance is a great place to start.
