Kalamazoo Mourns The Loss of One of The Most Beloved Barbeque Owners, Big T
The city of Kalamazoo is mourning the loss of one of our city's most prolific and well-known barbecue pit bosses. Terrance Burton, lovingly known as Big T, who is a part of TNT – Lil Bros Barbecue, has sadly passed away.
The barbecue restaurant was started by Terrence and Tisha (TnT), who are high school sweethearts, whose love of family, the Lord, and great barbecue brought them together to become one of the most iconic barbecue places in the city off Portage Road. You would regularly see Terrence out working the pit.

I myself would catch him on Facebook Live and always say to myself, “If my barbecue isn’t being cooked by a guy who looks like that, I don’t wanna have it.”
He was an exceptionally good pitmaster, but now his family is getting prepared to pay their final respects. The funeral will be held at the Second Baptist Church at 600 Donald Atkins Dr. in Benton Harbor, Michigan, on May 10. There is a viewing between 10 AM and 11 AM, with the service going from 11 AM until Noon.
So many people have already reached out to their Facebook post with funeral information, sharing their condolences.
Kalamazoo is known for a lot of things, from beer to food to rock ‘n’ roll. Good barbecue is something that is very easy to find here in Southwest Michigan, as there are so many great barbecue places around that offer their own unique take on the craft. Terence Burton was one of the best to do it in Kalamazoo, and he will be severely missed.
