Ever since late summer, we’ve been trying to figure out when Southwest Michigan’s first snow may be this winter season. A few years ago, we got it as early as Halloween night, but this year things are much different.

We have yet to have our first snow, but that looks like it’s going to change, according to Meteorologist Ryan Wichman, who is a meteorologist for WTOL 11 in Toledo, Ohio, who claims that this week we will see our first snowfall in Southwest Michigan.

As he described in a future forecast prediction on Facebook, we could see snowfall begin either Sunday or Monday.

Ready or not I am seeing a big pattern shift this weekend into early next week. This includes Ohio, Michigan and most of the Great Lakes! Real accumulation is likely in the lake effect belts, although even here it will pale in comparison to bigger events later this season. Either way -- snow season has arrived!

The reliable Farmer's Almanac has already shared its 2025 through 2026 winter forecast predictions in Michigan, which is mild with random bursts of snow hitting us.

This would mean we will have to deal with the occasional massive snowstorm that will cause disruptions. It’ll be interesting to see how accurate the Farmer's Almanac is this year, as they predict a very cold and snowy winter.

Until then, we should prepare for our first snowfall this weekend, regardless if it shows up or not. I welcome the idea of snow just as long as it's not super grey and muddy this season.
