This year, the Olympics saw some legendary gold medal victories, but none of them seemed more magical than the two gold medal games for both men's and women’s hockey, as not only were the USA able to win gold medals in both men’s and women’s competition, but both game winners were scored by players right here from Michigan.

It all started with the women’s game when Megan Keller, from Farmington, Michigan, set the tone as she scored the game-winning goal in overtime and helped lead her team to victory.

The women's USA Hockey team looked dominant the entire tournament, until Canada pushed them to their limits, but it wasn't enough.

Then yesterday the men’s team played a game, which arguably is one of the greatest games of hockey many people have seen in a long time.

Watching the game, you truly felt that every line that was playing for both teams was an All-Star, elite force. Just like the women’s game, the men’s game went to overtime, and not only was the game winner scored by Jack Hughes, from Canton, Michigan, but everybody on the ice for the United States during the game-winning goal was from Michigan.

This included Detroit Red Wings had Captain Dylan Larkin, from Waterford, Michigan. Joining them on the ice were the two men who got assists in the golden goal, Zach Werenski from Gross Point and, arguably the MVP of the game, Connor Hellebuyck from Commerce.

Helle stopped 41 of 42 shots, including a wide-open shot that would have taken the lead, had he not put a stick on it behind his back and deflected the puck away from the net.

These winswere huge for the country, but there’s something a little extra special considering Michigan is the home for all of these Olympic heroes. Michigan seems a little bit more golden this morning.
