Michigan’s Mackinac Island 2025 Tourist Season Has Been Devastated By Ice Storms
The transition from winter to spring has been very rough for the state of Michigan, especially in the upper part of the lower peninsula, where they are seeing a massive number of trees snapping, causing power outages and causing havoc all over the area.
One of the areas that has been most affected recently is Mackinac Island, which has received so much devastating damage that this year’s travelers will be heavily impacted by the routes they are able to take.

Recently, Great Lakes Weather & Climate made a post that shows a map of all the damaged paths that have been affected by frozen trees snapping from the numerous ice storms:
Mackinac Island State Park released a map on April 7th highlighting the impact of the ice storm on the Island. Roads shaded in red are currently impassable due to tree damage; yellow roads are passable, but still have major debris along the roadway; and green highlighted roads have no restrictions. Regarding trails on the Island, they sadly stated that, "Some trails may not be available for large chunks of the 2025 tourist season."
Mackinac Island State Parks released photos of their crew working to clear the mess the trees have made.
Below you can see a graphic that shows the roads which have been affected, including more than half of the iconic M-185. Mackinac Island State Park noted that the map only includes roads within the state park and not the City of Mackinac Island, including the downtown area.
