Every February we start getting hit with advertisements from different tax agencies, urging people to prepare themselves to get ready for tax season.

It’s hard to know which one to choose from considering there are so many options available. Some people to go with the big and trusted names in tax services, while other people to do taxes themselves with the assistance of tools like TurboTax. But one thing that we all have to be cautious about is our information, accidentally or purposefully being leaked to outside sources.

The last thing we want is our information floating around the Internet, especially when it comes to information that we share while doing our taxes. You may not have heard about this, but one of the biggest names in taxes is being accused of selling information to one of the biggest names in social media and the Internet.
A 49-page complaint was turned into a full-blown RICO Class Action Lawsuit in 2023 against H & R block, claiming the company sold their personal data to Meta & Google, according to courthousenews:
Plaintiffs say the international firm H&R Block used customers’ private income and financial records to help train Google and Meta’s algorithms and create targeted ads.
So just how did they do it? According to the report:
The plaintiffs claim the firm carried out a coordinated plan to install spyware and give Meta and Google access to virtually all customer information.
Anyone in Michigan who has used H & R Block in the past 8 years should look into the matter and the official complaint here, as the accusations have been heavy for the past year.
