Michigan’s Billy Strings Wins Grammy For Live Album Recorded At Pine Knob
There have been some legendary albums recorded in Michigan, that still stay on the test of time as some of the best live albums ever recorded. There is a young musician who has been well known for quite some time and recently took home a Grammy for the Best Bluegrass Album, which was partially recorded here in Michigan.
Billy Strings, who grew up in Ionia County, took home the award at the 67th Grammy Awards, and a Facebook post from Pine Knob confirmed that some of the recordings from his winning album 'Live Vol.1' we recorded from Pine Knob Music Theater back in 2023 when he played a concert there.

This isn’t the first time that Pineknob has had live recordings make an album, as there are a few live albums from Steve Miller Band as well as the J. Geils band, which were recorded at Pine Knob in the 80s.
This just adds to the list of successful albums that have been recorded in Michigan. One of the most infamous, live albums of all time is "Live Bullet" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band.
Also going back to the J. Geils band, they recorded three live albums in Michigan at three separate locations in a 10 year span. Full House, which was recorded at the Cinderella Ballroom, Blow Your Face Out, which was recorded at Cobo Hall, and the aforementioned Showtime, which was live from Pine Knob.
I look forward to checking this album out and embracing another awesome Michigan artist being recognized for their talent.
