I know what you're thinking "I know where Coopersville is" but we're not talking about that Coopersville, Michigan. Located just 45 miles southwest of Gaylord, Michigan you'll encounter one of the most authentic western towns you've probably never heard of.

Located near Lewiston, Michigan you'll find the site with several outbuildings complete with brothel, a saloon, and plenty of images of John Wayne, of course. How did this all come to be? According to roadside attraction site Roadside America the town was created by Spike Cooper and Spike's good friend Duke:

Spike Cooper...began building his Wild West town in 2013 as a tribute to Wayne -- but also to Tony Durtz, a hermit who lived on the property and willed it all to Spike. Coopers Ville has many memorable places, including a brothel, a Boot Hill, a saloon that serves real whiskey and beer, and a photo op gallows where you can pretend to hang yourself.

Sources claim that after Duke passed away Spike continued adding on to and maintaining the property as a tribute. Sadly, we've gotten word Spike passed away in 2020 and nearby residents say the duty of maintaining Coopersville has fallen to Spike's son.

It's a small low-key operation so don't expect too many frills when you stop and visit. While admission is free donations are encouraged to help maintain the property. Find out more on Coopersville USA below:
