The Detroit Lions haven't been near the top of the NFL rankings for a long time. For many decades they were considered to be a poverty franchise that could never get off the ground. They constantly struggled with being a team that seemed to have good players but couldn't get over the hump. Many of their fans have never seen a winning season and many of them hadn't seen a playoff victory before this year. Now, all of that has changed but that's not the only thing that changed.

The Detroit Lions haven't been in the position they are currently in since the earliest years of the 1990s. They won the NFC North Division and awarded themselves a home playoff game, both things they hadn't done in over 30 years. Then they went on to beat the Rams and the Buccaneers to get themselves into the NFC championship game, something they also haven't done in over 30 years. So, with so much time in between these accomplishments, what did the world look like the last time the Detroit Lions played for a chance to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
