Brunch is the combination of breakfast and lunch, often times it is someone eating breakfast food beyond the traditional breakfast hours. Many places will open their bar and offer sangrias, mimosas, bloody Mary's, wine, and other alcoholic beverages. Some places only serve brunch on weekends while others pride themselves on being available for that crowd on a daily basis.

Kalamazoo is a city where the brunch scene isn't as vibrant or saturated as many residents would like it to be. Off the top of my head I can think of about 5 places that offer brunch before I start to run out of places. The most notable are 600 Kitchen and Bar and Blue Dolphin who both offer mimosas and other drinks as well.

New Farm to Table Brunch Restaurant Opening in Kalamazoo

Many people of Kalamazoo are still mourning the loss of Long Island Cafe which proved to be another reliable brunch option until it closed. Luckily for those searching for a restaurant to take their place, they don't have to look too far as a new place opened up recently.

Greenhouse Cafe is taking over the space held formerly by Elysium at 505 E. North St and opened for business on Monday June 2nd. They are open 7am to 3pm and are a locally sourced restaurant practicing the farm-to-table concept. They use food from Carmela Foods, coffee from Infusco in Sawyer Michigan, maple syrup from Canton Ohio, and Brix soda based in Grand Rapids.

Their menu has options for those who enjoy vegan, organic, or gluten free food or have any allergies they are concerned with. The name Greenhouse Cafe comes from the owners thinking about what they want visitors to feel when eating at their restaurant and settled on Greenhouse Cafe because they stand by having high quality food.
