Of course, your results may vary and please, take caution when venturing out onto the ice but the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reports

"With the deep freeze, most of the state is now ice fishing.  Anglers will still need to use caution especially along the west side after all the snow.  Reports coming in say the pike are hungry and hitting hard and the panfish action has turned on.  Those targeting walleye are also taking some fish.  Ice fishing season is finally here!"

Lakes in the South and central part of the state have had the best results so far, including Jackson, Calhoun, Clinton, Eaton, Branch and St. Joseph Counties. The DNR recommends fishing in the small, shallow lakes for bluegill, crappie and pike.

Steelhead anglers are still getting fish near the Allegan Dam and a few diehards are still getting a fair number steelhead from the Grand River in Grand Rapids.
