An investigation into how the dead body of a woman ended up along I-94 in Battle Creek has now begun.

The Michigan State Police Marshall Post says they were called around 4:20pm Wednesday to eastbound I-94 near Capital Avenue, on reports of an unresponsive woman. When troopers arrived they found the woman in a ditch, and she was pronounced dead.

State Police identified the woman as 59-year-old Vanessa Obu Wilder, in a press release sent out early Thursday morning.

The Battle Creek Enquirer says that police were contacted roughly around the same time by Wilder’s daughter, who said that her mother had gone missing. Troopers spent part of Wednesday afternoon conducting interviews with some people at the nearby Rodeway Inn, because that is were she had reportedly been staying.

A cause of death has not yet been determined by the MSP; they say that investigators are continuing to look into the situation.
