Hundreds Of People Ill In The Midwest Due To Food Poisoning
Update on the massive recall on vegetable that have sickened hundreds in Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.
Just when you think you are eating healthy and doing the right things for your body, food poisoning has been linked to broccoli, cauliflower, celery sticks and carrots.
Del Monte veggie trays have sickened over 200 people in 4 different states, because of a parasite. Now there is a recall on 6-,12- and 28-ounce trays in clear, plastic clamshell packaging that contain these items was issued on June 15. The trays have a "Best if used by" date of June 17, 2018. so if you have any of those items, I beg you to throw them out and save yourself from falling ill.
The parasite that is causing people to become sick is called cyclosporiasis and it is scary as it sounds! I looked up exactly what cyclosporiasis is (come on, who knows what that is besides a super scary word) and CDC.com explained...
Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. People can become infected with Cyclospora by consuming food or water contaminated with the parasite. People living or traveling in countries where cyclosporiasis is endemic may be at increased risk for infection.
Clickondetroit.com gave a list of what you can expect if you are exposed to cyclosporiasis and it is not pretty...
- diarrhea and frequent, sometimes explosive bowel movements
- loss of appetite
- weight loss
- stomach cramps or pain
- body aches
- flu-like symptoms
The illness can last from a few days to a few months and patients may feel better but then get worse again. Patients can be treated with antibiotics.
If you have any of these symptoms you need to seek medical attention right away.
