Holland, Michigan Named as a Top Midwest Beach Town

Dutch haven nearly tops 'Third Coast' list.

Travel website Orbitz.com recently put together a list of the best "Third Coast" towns; Midwestern beach towns that are hundreds of miles from saltwater.

Although Duluth, Minnesota on Lake Superior topped the list, Michigan was well-represented with Petoskey at #4 and my hometown of Holland in the runner-up spot at #2. Chicago (on the wrong side of Lake Michigan) was #5 and Lake Geneva spoke for Wisconsin at #3.

Holland was cited for "the award-winning beaches just minutes away [from downtown shopping], busy in the day with volleyball, sandcastle building and sunbathing and beautiful in the evening with stunning sunsets."

On a recent trip to the Tulip City I captured all the glory of Lake Michigan on a windy Summer evening.
