On Friday (July 6), Frank Ray will release a brand-new single, "Tequila Mockingbird." He's sharing the song -- and its beachy music video -- early, though, exclusively with The Boot; readers can press play above to hear the song and see the video.

"Tequila Mockingbird" is all about recognizing the small details of your significant other's personality. Ray says the song "does that in a fun way" -- he especially likes the line "If she's a book, I'm getting hooked with every page that I turn" -- and he wants listeners to be inspired to do the same.

"Find a fun way to appreciate all the little things in your special someone, how they make you feel," he says, "and never stop trying to discover new things about them."

"Tequila Mockingbird" recorded in Nashville and produced by Steve Dorff. Ray filmed the music video in Key West, Fla. The song is the first from a forthcoming EP, which will be Ray's second.

A former police officer turned singer-songwriter, Ray is a San Antonio, Texas, native who now resides in Las Cruces, N.M. After a decade in the police force, Ray left to pursue music full time -- a decision that's paid off: His first two singles, from his first EP, became Top 10 hits on the Texas country charts.

Ray released his debut EP, Different Kind of Country, in 2017; he wrote all of its six tracks. Fans can visit FrankRayMusic.com to keep updated on the artist's goings-on, including the announcement of his next EP's release.
