This week on Food Trippin' In The Mitten, we traveled to JB's Whiskey Creek Old Style Grill in Springfield. They opened in December of 2016 and very quickly have become food, drink, and entertainment destination in the Battle Creek area.

JB's Whiskey Creek has a lot to take in visually from the moment you pull into the parking lot. A 'wall of bottles' is a recent installation of hundreds of bottles stacked in a colorful display outside. Even though those bottles are empty, no worries... inside there is plenty to drink. They have a motorcycle that sits in one corner of the bar and murals all around that showcase some of Battle Creek's most familiar attractions like hot air balloons, logos for Cereal City and Michigan Air National Guard.

Earlier this year, they hosted a classic car, truck and bike show. Their outdoor entertainment area has brought several local and regional artist to perform. Their stage has top notch lighting, smoke machines, and sound which certainly draws attention from anyone who might be driving down M-96 on a Friday or Saturday evening. There's also life size chess and checkerboards, cornhole and an outdoor bar.

They have bar food you would expect but certainly put their own spin on it. Although it would have been tempting to try everything on the menu, we did try a couple of their feature dishes. One was the "Help Wanted", which is a house made mac n' cheese with JB's fire brazed chicken, pico, and topped with cilantro. Another was the "All American Whiskey Barrel Nachos" made with red, white, and blue tortilla chips and house made queso. Then they top it with cactus chili, mixed cheeses, pico, jalapenos and your choice of chicken, beef, or pork. We also sampled their unique Sriracha Cheese Curds. Just in those three samples, we're quite confident you can't go wrong with this menu.

Then the liquor. JB's has the widest variety of whiskey, bourbon, among others and many of them are made in Michigan. One wall is stacked to the ceiling with bottles and they are planning to add even more. They also have an elaborate wine and beer selection which also features many Michigan brands.
