I know some of you grew up listening to Tiger baseball on the radio. Maybe you remember your parents or grandparents having it on in the car or the garage.

For me, Paul and Ernie will always bring back memories of my first paid job in radio.

Just out of high school, I gave up my Saturday nights to sit in a small studio at 1450 WHTC in Holland, Michigan and listen to the games. I never got to actually talk live on the radio, I just played the commercials when one team got 3 outs.

I wasn't much of a baseball fan but those two, Paul Carey and Ernie Hawell, were incredible to listen to! Paul with his deep, sonorous voice and Ernie bringing the action to life- you could just see that "youngster from Romulus in the third row taking home a souvenir."

I can't believe it has been almost 6 years since Ernie passed away on May 4, 2010. I remember that too. Although neither one has done play-by-play for a long time it is still the end of an era. For me that era started a long time ago in that small booth in Holland. Now I get to work more days than just Saturday- and I get to talk on the radio!

Thank you, Paul Carey and Ernie Harwell for being inspirational and instrumental in getting me into my chosen career. Thank you who are reading and listening for continuing to let me do what I love.
