Blake Shelton Calls Charlottesville Victim Heather Heyer’s Mother ‘Strong and Inspiring’
As the world mourns the death of Heather Heyer, the young woman killed after a car plowed through a crowd of protesters in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday (Aug. 12), Blake Shelton is showing his support for her family.
Heyer's funeral service took place on Wednesday (Aug. 16), and after hearing powerful words from her mother Susan Bro, Shelton felt compelled to share his admiration for the grieving mother. "Incredible words from Heather Heyer’s mother Susan Bro. If you missed it, look for it. What a strong and inspiring person," Shelton writes in a tweet.
Heyer, 32, was one the many counter-protesters rallying against the white supremacists and neo-Nazis who marched into Charlottesville on Friday night (Aug. 11). She was killed when a car drove into the crowds of people during the white nationalist rally that left more than 30 people injured.
"They tried to kill my child to shut her up, but guess what, you just magnified her,” Bro said in her speech at the memorial for her daughter. "She loved people; she wanted equality. On the day of her passing, she wanted to put down hate," her father Mark Heyer added.
Shelton is just one country star who has spoken out following the Charlottesville attacks. Kip Moore wrote a passionate testimonial on Facebook about his thoughts on the matter, saying, "If your parents taught you to hate people of color they’re idiots. If you’re an adult & still spewing their hate, that makes you a bigger idiot." Tim McGraw, Old Dominion, Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves are just a few of the other country singers to voice their opinions about the events in Charlottesville.
