By this time last year, we’d known for weeks that Lady Gaga would take American Horror Story into its fifth iteration, Hotel, while Season 6 remains horrifyingly opaque. At the very least, we know that Ryan Murphy apparently has two ideas in store for the 2016 run, even if he has no idea which to pick.

Murphy admitted as much during the cast’s Paley Fest panel, noting that one idea would eventually win out over the other, though both will place an emphasis on children. The idea follows Murphy’s 2015 quote about competing writers’ rooms for Season 6, which at the time gave rise to the potential for dual seasons.

Said the Horror Story head (via TVLine):

The interesting thing about this season is we’ve been working on two ideas at once, which we’ve never done. So I don’t want to say what it maybe is…. Both things that we’re writing right now – we haven’t declared a winner – will have a different form, so we’re excited about that. We’ll talk about it soon, but we haven’t landed on it yet. […]

If you look at horror tropes, the innocence of children, that sort of wide-eyed entryway into some world is always very dramatic and satisfying.

Murphy also extended open invitations for any and all past Horror Story stars to return, including panel guests Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Denis O’Hare, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson and Finn Wittrock. Murphy previously confirmed a shocking role in mind for Angela Bassett, who herself already seems committed, while Lady Gaga has also been confirmed to recur in some capacity.

Thus far, little else of the sixth season has been revealed, other than to expect the premiere in fall, and that the season would take place in two different time periods.

Will FX provide Season 6 details before long, if filming starts in June? Might one of the two American Horror Story Season 6 ideas take place in space? Might they both? It’s all in space, Ryan.
