There are some names that tend to be regional like Emma, Olivia and Isabelle. What if you named your baby based on your city?

Naming a baby can be tough sometimes, especially it you are expecting a girl like my friend Mandy who ended up with a boy. I read her article about naming your child using popular restaurants, stores or even musicians from the area. She is in Rockford, Illinois and works for my sister station. you can read her story here.

Before you do, I was wondering what names we could use from Kalamazoo and the surrounding areas. For example, Gibson guitars started in Kalamazoo. So, how about Gibson? or Gibby for short? Then there's Ted, after 'The Great White Buffalo' Ted Nugent.

Then, we come to Paw Paw. What would we name our kids based on what we have? well, we have St. Julian, Warner and the Paw Paw Brewing company. How about Buzz? Okay, Seriously, What about Chris after Tony Award nominee Chris D'Arienzo. Then there's my old football coach Don Moorhead who was a record breaking football player for the University of Michigan football team from 1969-1970 and played professionally in Canada. Also, lets not forget Charlie Maxwell ("Old Paw Paw"), a former Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox baseball player.

Now, according to Mongabay.com, the most popular name in Michigan is Jacob (my son's name) meanwhile John comes in at 33.

If you were to name your child based on someone famous from your area or your favorite place to visit, what would it be? leave a comment below.
