Kalamazoo Area Runners and the City of Portage present the 3rd annual Portage Winterblast Half Marathon and 5k this weekend.

Not only the weather forecast, also the name of 5k and Half Marathon races scheduled in Portage.

Runners will brave sub-freezing temperatures for a little over 3 miles for the 5k race or 13.1 miles for half-marathon runners.

Events will take place at Portage Central High School, 8135 South Westnedge in Portage, with the 5k race beginning at 8AM and the half-marathon 10 minutes later.

If you'd still like to sign up and give it a go, late registration is at the expo on Saturday from 2-5PM in the commons area of Portage Central High School. Race day registration is available for the 5k but not the half-marathon.

It was one of the toughest races I did last year, but that's probably because I did it on about 3 hours of sleep. I was at a concert in Chicago the night before and a snowstorm slowed the return trip to Kalamazoo to a crawl on I-94.
